The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Tijani, has assured that justice will be served following the death of a Lagos State University (LASU) student in a tragic road accident.
Tijani gave the assurance after visiting the scene of the incident in the Igando area of Lagos where the fatal crash occurred.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi
According to her, the police commissioner, accompanied by senior officers, carried out an on-the-spot assessment to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
During the visit, the police team also met with representatives of the LASU Students’ Union, addressing their concerns over the incident.
Adebisi noted that the CP commended the students for maintaining calm and order despite the emotional impact of losing one of their colleagues.
She added that Tijani assured the students that the suspect involved in the crash would be prosecuted in court without delay.
“The driver linked to the incident will be charged to court for proper legal action,” she stated.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and public safety, while urging residents to remain calm.
Authorities also extended condolences to the family of the deceased student, praying for the repose of her soul.
The victim, identified as Azeezat Abdul-Rasheed, a 300-level student of LASU, reportedly died after being hit by a vehicle around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The incident had earlier sparked protests, with students expressing concerns over alleged attempts to shield the driver involved.
Videos circulating on social media showed students gathering at the Area M Police Division in Idimu, demanding justice and accountability.
The police have assured that due process will be followed as investigations continue.
