A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Stephen Ogundipe, has expressed sympathy with residents of Sogunle and Mafoluku communities in Oshodi, following severe flooding that disrupted lives and caused significant damage in the area.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, Ogundipe described the impact of the flood as devastating, noting that many residents were displaced while properties were destroyed.
The legislator said the situation had created emotional and economic hardship for affected families.
He extended his condolences to residents, praying for strength and recovery for those impacted by the disaster.
Ogundipe noted that recurring flooding in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I has remained a major concern for residents over the years.
The lawmaker disclosed that he had repeatedly engaged relevant government agencies through petitions and advocacy to address the persistent flooding challenge.
He assured constituents that efforts would continue until sustainable flood control measures and improved drainage infrastructure are implemented across the affected communities.
Ogundipe urged residents to support government initiatives aimed at resolving flooding issues in the area.
He emphasised that stricter environmental regulation and urban renewal policies may be required to safeguard lives and property.
According to him, coordinated action between residents and government is essential to prevent future occurrences of flooding in Oshodi and surrounding areas.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising the welfare of his constituents through continuous engagement on environmental and infrastructural challenges.
He also prayed for protection against future disasters affecting communities within and beyond the constituency.
