Lagos Assembly confirms Steve Ayorinde, Deji Tinubu, Jide Idris, Durosinmi-Etti, Dabiri, others as commissioners

Lagos State House of Assembly, on Thursday, confirmed the 37 nominees of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for appointment as commissioners and Special Advisers.
The confirmation followed the presentation of the report of the Assembly’s 15-man Ad-hoc Screening Committee led by Mr Wasiu Esinlokun-Sanni, (APC-Lagos Island 2), and its adoption.
Esinlokun-Sanni, who read the report and recommendations of the committee, said all the nominees submitted required documents and original certificates for sighting and were asked questions on the state.
He said that the nominees were endorsed by the lawmakers representing their constituencies and cleared by the committees.
Following the presentation, lawmakers took turns to commend the committee for the job.
Mr Sanai Agunbiade, the Majority Leader, moved for the adoption of the committee’s report and recommendations, seeking approval of the nominees after the screening.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Mudasiru Obasa, after taking voice votes to confirm the nominees, directed the Clerk of the House, Mr Ganiyu Abiru, to convey the House decision to the governor.
The Assembly had set up the committee on September 21, after receiving Ambode’s list on the same day for the House approval.
It said that it took decision to set up a committee to screen the nominees before appearing on the floor of the House so as to make the process less cumbersome.
Thirty six of the nominees, had, on Tuesday, also taken turns to share their bio-data and experience on the floor of the House, while the last nominee appeared during plenary session on Thursday.
The nominees screened and confirmed are Mr Gbolahan Lawal, Dr Jide Idris, Mr Folarin Coker, Mr Seye Oladejo, Mr Ganiyu Johnson and Mr Babatunde Hunpe.
They also include Mrs Yetunde Onabule, Fela Bank-Olemoh, Mr Akinyemi Ashade, Mr Steve Ayorinde, Alhaja Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, Mr Kehinde Joseph, Prof. Ademola Abass, Dr Akintola Benson, Dr Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Lateef, Dr Mohammed Akinkunmi and Dr Babatunde Adejare.
Others are Dr Femi Onanuga, Dr Dayo Mobereola, Mr Adebowale Akinsanya, Mr Wasiu Anifowoshe, Mrs Lola Akande, Mr Agboola Dabiri, Mr Ganiu Okanlomo-Sanni, and Mr Anofi Elegushi.
The rest are Mr Rotimi Ogunleye, Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, Mr Femi Odubiyi, Alhaji Musiliu Folami, Mr Adeniji Kazeem, Mr Oluwo Olawale, Mr Adeyemi Labinjo, Mr Toyin Suarau, Mr Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, Mr Deji Tinubu, Mrs Mudirat Giwanson and Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan .
The Assembly adjourned its plenary session to October 19.
