Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has received approval from the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Screening Committee to contest for the party’s governorship ticket in the 2027 elections.
Hamzat shared the news after appearing before the 11-man screening committee in Abuja on Saturday, as confirmed by his post on X (formerly Twitter).
The screening committee, led by Dr. Benjamin Nwoye, cleared Hamzat to proceed in the party’s primaries. In his statement, Hamzat described the process as transparent, deliberate, and excellent.
“Today in Abuja, I appeared before the APC Governorship Screening Committee ahead of our party primaries. I am grateful for the clean bill of approval to move forward,” Hamzat said.
He emphasized that his gubernatorial ambition was grounded in service and continuity, expressing that the current administration had established a strong foundation for Lagos State’s growth.
“This journey is about service and commitment to all Lagosians. We have built a solid foundation, and now we are ready to take the next step toward a greater and more inclusive Lagos. The work continues, and I am ready to keep moving forward with you,” he added.
The APC began the sale of its Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms on April 28, 2026, with the screening of aspirants scheduled from May 6 to May 9. The party’s governorship primary election is set to take place on May 21.
