Maku: I don’t need political structures to win Nasarawa governorship seat

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Director-General of President Goodluck
Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, on Tuesday, described former Information Minister, Labaran Maku, as a traitor.
He urged the electorate in Nasarawa State not to support Maku’s aspiration to become the governor of the North-Central State on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Having failed to secure the PDP ticket, Maku defected to APGA and picked the ticket.
He had also announced that the electorate should vote for him as governor and Jonathan as president.
But Ali said Maku is a fox who cannot be trusted. He also declared, at a presidential campaign rally at the Lafia Township Stadium Lafia, the state capital, that the former minister “is working against the interest of President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP ”.
He said: “I want to call on you and other Nigerians not to agree with insinuation going round the state that our president is supporting Mr. Labaran Maku in the state for his governorship ambition under APGA. President Jonathan is in PDP and will never support any candidate outside
PDP.
“Mr. President is here today. Let Labaran come out to defend his claims if it true and it is not true at all. He wants to divide the vote of PDP in the state so that our party will lose but by the grace of God, we will win all positions during the February poll.
“The former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, after benefiting a lot from the PDP government, defected to APGA. Such decision is not in the best interest of the PDP and nobody should said that President Jonathan is supporting his governorship ambition in the state.
“President Jonathan is only supporting all the PDP candidates in the country and I call on you and other Nigerians to disregard any information regarding supporting Maku as it is not only false but unfounded and created by those who want to create division in the party”.
He called on Maku to seek forgiveness from the president and the PDP.
