Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, (PDP-Abia North), has commended the efforts of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State in reducing crime in the state.

Mao said this in Abuja on Wednesday.

He also lauded the administration for the provision of massive road infrastructure in the last one year.

He said that the Ikpeazu administration had also ensured continuity in the implementation of programmes initiated by its predecessor.

Mao particularly commended the successes achieved by the administration in the area of tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

“I like the consolidation and sustenance of peace and security; you remember that at a point Abia State was no-go area.

“Mere mention of Abia State was enough to put any person off because of the level of criminality; kidnapping, but the last fought it head on and this government is sustaining it.

“So, for me, that for one year now there had not been any serious incident of kidnapping like what it was; at least for me, they have done well within one year.

“Then another area that the governor is facing head on is the area of road infrastructure and the rehabilitation of Aba; Aba is the commercial nerve centre of the East.

“But at a point, physical infrastructure was nothing to write home about in Aba—no road; but today, he is fighting it head on.

“As at today, I am aware that about 10 roads or more are due for commission in Aba alone.’’

According to the senator, the roads are not just roads for the fun but solidly built with concrete technology.

He said that roads built with concrete cement, though expensive, were more durable.

He said that if Aba was developed, Nigeria would soon be self-sufficient in terms of technology.

According to him, shoes, clothing, and hardware made in Aba can favourably compete with foreign made.
