Immediate past Chairman of Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bisi Kolawole, on Wednesday, emerged as the
governorship candidate of the party for the June 18 election.
Kolawole, a former Commissioner and House of Assembly member, got 671 votes during the primaries held at the Pope John Paul 2 Pastoral Centre, Ikere Road, Ado Ekiti.
Former Governor Segun Oni got 330 votes while the party’s 2018 governorship candidate, Prof. Olusola Eleka, got 93 votes.
Wale Aribisala got 56 votes, Kayode Adaramodu got 10 votes; Deji Ogunsakin, six votes; Ayodeji Kazeem, six votes; Senator Biodun Olujimi, two votes; Adekemi Adewumi, one vote; Lateef Ajijola, one vote and Yinka Akerele, 0 vote.
Total void votes, 13.
Olujimi had earlier withdrawn from the race, alleging irregularities.
It is believed that Kolawole is the anointed candidate of the immediate past governor, Ayo Fayose.
Kolawole was declared winner by the Chairman, Electoral Committee of the party, Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State.
He said Kolawole won the election by scoring the highest number of votes cast.
The election started with accreditation of delegates, with armed police officers fully on ground to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Some delegates, earlier, exchanged blows over allegation of irregularities in the list of voters.
Udom appreciated party members for their display of maturity and cooperation which led to the success of the poll.
He called on Kolawole “to be magnanimous in victory while those who lost should be strong in defeat”.
