Before he was released, the Archbishop of Niger Delta North of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Ignatius Kattey, was given N200 as transport fare by his abductors.
The cleric used the money “to take a motorcycle home”.
This was revealed by the Archdeacon of Eleme Archdeaconry, Venerable Israel Omosioni.
He said the archbishop “is healthy and agile, despite his ordeal”.
Kattey and his wife, Beatrice, were kidnapped on September 6 at Eleme on their way to Port Harcourt.
The abductors later freed Beatrice and took him away.
It is not known if any ransom was paid by the government or the church before he was released.
The Rivers State Police Command on Sunday also confirmed the release.
DSP Angela Agabe, the Public Relations Officer of the Police Command, said in Port Harcourt that Kattey was rescued by the police at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Agabe said: “I can confirm that Bishop Kattey has been rescued.
“The command is not aware that any ransom was paid and the bishop is in stable condition.”
She said no arrest was made during the rescue operation.
