Keyamo sues WAEC over Senator Uzodinma’s certificate

festus_keyamoControversial Lagos lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has dragged the West African Examination Council (WAEC) before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over its failure to release to him (Keyamo) the Certified True Copy of Senator Hope Uzodinma’s WAEC certificate he (Uzodinma) claimed to have acquired from Mgbidi Boys High School, Imo State in 1982.

Armed with Sections 1(1), (2), & (4) of The Freedom Of Information (FOI) Act, 2011, Keyamo said he wrote WAEC on 14th May, 2013 where he applied for the Certified True Copy of the West African Senior School Certificate of Uzodinma, but the examination body refused to comply.

Keyamo, however, alleged that Uzodinma” has always claimed to be an alumnus of Mgbidi Boys High School, Imo State from where he allegedly obtained his West African Senior School Certificate in 1982.

“The said Hope Uzodinma claimed to have graduated from the Mgbidi Boys High School, Imo State in 1982.

“That inquiry and investigation into the names and persons that graduated in that year has revealed that Senator Hope Uzodinma was not a graduate of the school in 1982,” Keyamo said.

A purported copy of the letter he wrote to WAEC which he (Keyamo) released on Monday reads in part: “In the course of our legal activities, we have been reliably informed that Senator Hope Uzodinma graduated from Mgbidi Boys High School, Imo State in 1982, from where he allegedly obtained his WAEC Certificate.

“We hereby demand for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the WAEC Certificate (or SSCE Result or WASSCE) of the said Hope Uzodinma, if any, within SEVEN (7) days of your receipt of this letter, pursuant to Section 1 (1) and (2) and section 4 (a) of the FOI Act.

“Take notice that should you fail, neglect or refuse to comply with our demand herein, we shall proceed to institute proceedings in court for an Order compelling you to so comply in accordance with Section 1(3) of the FOI Act.”
