Today Thursday October 4, 2018, Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State, after three changes in date and postponements, eventually held what it called primary election to pick its gubernatorial candidate for the 2019 election. The supposed election is still going on as I write this press statement.
An election is being held without any written guideline; no names and contacts of those to conduct the election; and no known addresses of election venues.
There are only two women from Lagos SDP posted to Ogun State to conduct the election. So-called SDP Ward and LG officials are saddled with the responsibility of conducting the election in unknown venues without any independent external supervision. Supposed votings are being made without party membership forms or party membership cards. Consequently, the people given the election materials disappeared into different corners and wrote votes for the different aspirants they are supporting. This definitely cannot be what the SDP wants to call Governorship Primary election.
Meanwhile, I had anticipated all these and raised them in series of memos written to the National Vice Chairman (South West), Chief Supo Sonibare; Assistant National Secretary (South West), Hon Mabinuori; Ogun SDP Chairman, Chief Kunle Majekodunmi; and others directly involved in organising the primary election. None of the issues was addressed. I’ll make all the memos available to the public at the appropriate time.
Against the background of the foregoing and without prejudice to the outcome of the so-called election, I am calling on the National Headquarters of SDP to cancel this fraudulent election and immediately organize a fresh one before INEC deadline. The National Chairman of SDP, Chief Olu Falae and the National Vice Chairman (South West), Chief Supo Sonibare, must not soil their names with the sham and fraud called primary election by Ogun SDP.
Signed:
Sina Kawonise,
Governorship Aspirant,
Ogun SDP.
