The Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina, says it has received about N1 billion funding to set up petroleum technology and chemical engineering programs.
The Rector of the institution, Dr Ibrahim Mudi-Kurfi, said this on Wednesday in Katsina.
Mudi-Kurfi said that the fund was provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
“TETFund granted special intervention of about N1 billion to the institution which will be used in equipping the laboratories and the two departments,” the rector said.
He said that construction work has reached advanced stage, adding that the two programs would commence during the 2023 academic session.
“As soon as the construction is over, we will invite the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to come and inspect, to ensure that things are in order.
“I believe they will allow us to start the programs, because these two programs are been offered only in two institutions in the entire Northwest institutions,” he said.
The rector said the NBTE had so far accredited about 40 National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs run by the polytechnic.
Mudi-Kurfi further said that the NBTE, on Nov. 9, conducted accreditation assessment of eight other programs.
The programs included ND Environmental Health Technology, Pharmaceutical Technology, Survey and Geo-informatics and Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Others are HND Science Laboratory with Chemistry option, Science Laboratory with Microbiology option, HND Civil Engineering, and HND Mechanical Engineering with Production option.

“We hope NBTE will grant permission to the polytechnic to run the programs,” he added.
