Members of Kano State House of Assembly have denied receiving N17 million each, as bribe to support Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in his current disagreement with Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Yusuf Ata, at news briefing on Monday in Kano dismissed the claim as false and mere attempt to blackmail the lawmakers.
“The Assembly has since reported the matter to the police, and report reaching us from the Command indicates that the suspect behind the matter has been arrested.”
According to him, the lawmakers want the police to compel the suspect to provide proof of the payment he alleged was made to them.
“I assured you that we are going to follow the issue and make sure he is prosecuted accordingly, so that it will be a lesson to others,” Ata said.
He called on politicians in the state to stop maligning the character of people, and learn to react to issues based on facts.
A former aide to Kwankwaso had in a media chat at the weekend alleged that the lawmakers were bribed to pitch camp with the governor.
Thirty six of the 44 members of the Assembly had openly supported Ganduje in the current war of supremacy between him and former governor Kwankwaso, now Senator representing Kano Central.
Ganduje was Kwankwaso’s deputy between 2011 and 2015.
