The Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic news of the death of the state’s athletes in a road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

In a statement he issued on Monday in Kano, Abbas commiserated with the families of the deceased, describing the tragedy as “an immeasurable and irreplaceable loss to the entire nation.

“I am heartbroken by the tragic losses of the 22 dedicated athletes from Kano State who sadly passed away in an accident while returning from the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

“This is an immeasurable tragedy, not only for their families who have lost loved ones, but for our dear state and the entire nation.

“These athletes represented the pride, energy, and aspirations of a generation, and their untimely death is a sorrow we collectively bear.

“On behalf of the APC family in Kano State, I extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Kano State, and the wider Nigerian sports community,” Abbas said.

He prayed Allah to grant the departed souls eternal rest, comfort their loved ones and grant speedy recovery to the injured.

He added: “In this moment of mourning, may we also find strength in unity and compassion as we support one another through this painful loss.”
