Chief Orji Kalu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged the winner of Saturday’s National Assembly poll in Abia North Senatorial District.
Kalu polled 30,203 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who garnered 20,801 votes.
Chief Ogba Onuoha, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, polled 11,410 to take a distant third place.
The Returning Officer for the senatorial district, Dr. Charles Anumudu, announced the result on Monday at the Abia North Collation Center in Ohafia.
The former governor won in four out of the five local government areas (LGAs) in Abia North.
Ohuabunwa, who hails from Arochukwu, lost to Kalu by 843 to 1,166 votes in the council area.
A breakdown of the result is as follows: Ohafia: APC 5523, PDP 4861; Isuikwuato: APC 8317, PDP 4609; Bende (Kalu’s LGA), APC: 10,701, PDP 4875.
PDP, however, scored 5,613 votes against APC’s 5,496 votes in Umunneochi council area.
Kalu lost his senatorial bid in 2011 and 2015 to the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije and Ohuabunwa, respectively.
Meanwhile, PDP is still leading in the presidential poll in 12 out of the 14 local government results so far released by INEC in Abia.
Results of the poll in Umuahia North, Aba South and Ukwa West LGAs were still being awaited at the time of filing the report.
INEC also declared APC’s Mohammed Sabo as winner for Jigawa South West Senatorial District.
The Retuning Officer for the election, Prof. Adamu Isge who announced the result in Dutse on Monday, said that Sabo scored 224,543 votes to defeat his PDP opponent, Mustapha Sule Lamido, who scored 143,611 votes.
Isge added that Ashiru Sunusi Katanga, the candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 3,496 votes.
“I, Professor Adamu Isge, hereby certify that I am the returning officer of Jigawa South West Senatorial District election which took place on the 23 day of February 2019.
“That Mohammed Sabo of the APC having satisfyied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
Sabo, popularly known as Nakudu is the serving senator for the senatorial district.
Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State also emerged the winner of Nasarawa South Senatorial district to defeat the incumbent Senator Suleiman Adokwe.
Prof. Mohammed Kida of Federal University Lafia who is the Nasarawa South Senatorial Returning Officer, announced the result at the Ibrahim Abacha Youths Centre, Lafia venue of the collation.
According to him, Al-Makura of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 113,156 to defeat Adokwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 104,595 votes.
“By the the power confirmed on me as the returning officer, I hereby declare Governor Al-Makura as the Senator-elect, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes.”
He said that out of the 550,761 registered voters, 239,709 people were accredited.
The returning officer added that 235,238 votes were cast out of which 228,521 were valid, while 6,717 votes were rejected.
Deputy Senate Leader, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, was reelected to represent Kebbi South in the National Assembly.
Na’Allah, APC candidate, won with 136,187 votes to defeat his closest rival, Benjamin Dikki of PDP, who scored 62,733 votes.
The figures were announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Muhammed Zagga, on Monday in Zuru.
The Kebbi South Senatorial district comprises Zuru, Fakai, Sakaba, Danko/Wasagu, Shanga, Ngaski and Yauri local government areas.
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, representing Delta North Senatorial District on PDP platform, won the ticket to return to the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
In the result of Saturday’s National Assembly election announced in Asaba on Monday, by Dr Ignatius Ezoem, Returning Officer for the Senatorial Election, Nwaoboshi polled 186,423 votes to retain the seat.
His closest opponent, Doris Uboh of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 36,350 votes in the election contested in nine local government areas that make up the district.
“Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied all the requirements in this election is hereby declared winner and returned as elected,” Ezoem declared.
From the result declared, the PDP candidate scored 21,557 votes in Oshimili North as against APC’s 1,907 votes.
In Oshimili South, PDP polled 35,281 votes, while APC got 2,841 votes; Aniocha South electorate voted 14,819 ballots for PDP and 3,410 for APC.
Other LGA results are Aniocha North, 13, 258 for PDP and 3,557 votes for APC; Ika South – PDP, 19,124 votes; APC, 7,926 votes, and Ika North East, PDP, 29, 059 votes; APC, 5,833 votes.
In Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West, Nwaoboshi polled 20,571 and 17, 902 votes as against APC’s 3,257 and 2,986 votes.
The senator scored 14, 852 votes in Ukwuani LGA while Uboh got 4,632 votes.
Similarly, in the contest for Ndokwa Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, the incumbent, Ossai Ossai of PDP, polled 52, 934 votes to defeat APC’s Paul Odili, who got 8, 690 votes.
INEC also declared Mr Amos Blues of APC winner of Senatorial election in Gombe South District.
Announcing the result in Kaltungo on Monday, the Returning Officer, Prof Sale Mohammed, said Blues polled 80,549 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Hajiya Binta Bello of PDP, who scored 63,312 votes.
Bello is currently representing Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives where he is the Minority Whip.
The returning officer said that the total vote cast was 157,327 while the total registered voters in the senatorial district comprising Kaltungo, Billiri, Shongom, and Balanga Local Government Areas was 416,299
He added that a total of 5,449 votes were rejected and 11 registration areas in Balanga and 30 polling units in Shongom were affected for non-usage of card readers.
The cancellation of the affected poling units raised tension in the area which led to the delay in announcing the result.
