orji_uzor_kaluDr Orji Kalu, a former governor of Abia, has commended Alhaji Bamanga Tukur for resigning as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kalu gave the commendation at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, late on Saturday while speaking with aviation correspondents on his return from the United Arab Emirate.

Tukur’s resignation was announced by President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday in Abuja.

“Tukur was able to say I would resign on my own and this is how democracy should be practised,” Kalu said.

He advised Nigerians to learn how to quit office at the right time.

Kalu expressed appreciation to Tukur for his courage, saying that he left the office when the ovation was loudest.

The former governor advised the five governors and the parliamentarians that who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to return immediately.

“They should come back and join the rest of us to build the new brand party,” Kalu, a former presidential candidate of the People’s Progressive Alliance (PPA), said.

According to him, the stakeholders and founding fathers of the PDP will put in everything to restructure and re-brand the party.

Kalu, however, said that the formation of the APC was good for democracy in the country.

“If there are no two main political parties, the country will not move forward as there will be no keen competition.

“ What is happening in Nigeria with the existence of the APC is a good deal for the poor masses of this country who should have alternatives,” he said.
