Kaduna lawmakers set up panel to probe El-Rufai

The crisis between former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, and his successor, Uba Sani, has deepened.
Recently, Sani raised the alarm that the $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities inherited from El-Rufai were affecting the smooth running of his administration.
Immediately, one of El-Rufai’s sons attacked Sani.
On Tuesday, the House of Assembly set up a fact-finding committee to probe all finances, loans and contract projects awarded El-Rufai.
The committee to conduct the probe was set up at the plenary presided by the Speaker, Yusuf Liman Dahiru.
The Committee was tasked to embark “on fact-finding of financial dealings, loans, grants and other projects’ implementation from 2015-2023.”
The Assembly also mandated the committee to invite El-Rufai and other notable personalities, including the former speaker of the 8th and 9th Assembly.
Others to be invited are former commissioners of finance and commissioners of budget and planning.
Sani had lamented the huge debt burden left by El-Rufai which, he claimed, was incapacitating his administration.
Sani said the state was left with a few amount not enough to pay salary.
“Despite the huge debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion and N115 billion in contractual liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.
“We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,” the governor said.
