Junior Rangers emerge Enugu FA League champions

rangers_of_enuguThe junior team of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu under the tutelage of Ndubuisi Ajomiwe has emerged champions of the 2013 Enugu state Football League competition solely sponsored by Sir Ndubuisi Young of YKC Petroleum.

To lift the trophy, the amateur Flying Antelopes, humiliated their opponent and first runners-up in the tournament, Star Bombers of coal camp 2-0 in the final match played yesterday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

With this, Rangers Junior, are expected to represent the Coal City state of Enugu in the forthcoming National Amateur League play-off slated for Akwa Ibom state any time from now.

The chairman of the Enugu State Football Association (FA), and organisers of the annual soccer fiesta, Honourable Chidi Ofo Okenwa, told freedomonline.com at the end of the encounter that he was satisfied with the high level discipline exhibited by all participating teams in the competition.

Ofor, a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), noted that the grassroot soccer competition, has over the years provided young people in the Coal City state the platform of showcasing their God’s given talent in the round leader game.

The Enugu State FA helmsman, said: “What took place during the period of the exercise was a clear testimony of good things to come in Enugu state in football, adding that the boys really displayed interesting soccer artistry.

He however, restated the commitment of the state FA in promoting and encouraging grass root soccer which he said, remains the pillar for development of the game in any nation, including Enugu and Nigeria at large.

While hailing managing Director of a Port Harcourt based business outfit, YKC international, Sir Young Ndubuisi, for sponsoring this year’s edition of the competition, Ofor, called on other well meaning citizens of the state and corporate organizations operating in the area to embrace its sponsorship deal, “Because we have a lot of programs open for sponsorship” he hinted.

Fielding questions from sports writers earlier on what informed his decision to foot the bill of the competition, chief Ndubusi, who hails from Enugu, said it was part of his personal contribution towards promoting grass root soccer in his home state, as well as assist government in getting idle youths off the streets, “because like you know, an idle mind they say is always the devils work workshop. .
