June 12 : Kokori to speak at Lagos NUJ’s 20th Anniversary Lecture

frank_kokoriFormer General Secretary of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Chief Frank Kokori, is expected as a guest lecturer at a one-day event being put together by the Lagos state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, to mark the 20th anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election widely acclaimed to have been won by late business mogul, Chief Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola.

Kokori, a major player during the battle for the actualization of the June 12 mandate, will be speaking on the theme, Post June 12: The Good and the Bad, at the lecture holding on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Ondo Hall , Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja by 10 am.

According to a statement issued by the Chairman of Lagos NUJ, Deji Elumoye and Secretary, Sylva Okereke, those to discuss Kokori’s paper include legal luminary, Femi Falana, SAN ; former Managing Director of Concord Press, Dr (Mrs) Doyin Abiola; Deputy Managing Director of ThisDay Newspapers, Kayode Komolafe and the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Femi Adesina.

Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to Chair the Lecture while Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State is expected to be the Chief Host with former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba as Special Guest of Honour.

Other dignitaries expected at the Lecture include the former NADECO Chieftain, Lt. Gen. Alani Akinrinade (rtd); former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele and former Governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande.

In the same vein, President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mallam Mohammed Garba is the Host while past and present leaders of the Union would also be in attendance.

The statement further noted that the event will also give some Nigerians, who were not part of the struggle, the opportunity to know what happened during the June 12 crisis.
