Nigerians have been charged to shun politics of propaganda used by opposition political party for the country to move forward.
Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, who made the call, also assured President Goodluck Jonathan of 100 per cent vote from the South-South state during the February 14 election.
Akpabio spoke during the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign flag-off rally at Uyo Sports Stadium.
He remarked: “Nigerians must shun propaganda because propaganda can never win a war, for we can only move forward in Nigeria and not backward.
“I, therefore, urge all Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan in the upcoming elections and for members of PDP to obtain their permanent voters card and turn out en-mass to support the party during the forthcoming elections,” Akpabio maintained.
The governor, who reaffirmed total support for Jonathan assured: “Akwa Ibom State is 100 per cent safe for the president. There are dividends of democracy in our state due to the massive infrastructures seen on ground. We have achieved much as a PDP state because we have shown politics of reality and not of propaganda”.
He said the state PDP rally was to celebrate the achievements of the state and his administration such as Ibom Power Plant, Akwa Ibom International Stadium, first class E-library, massive road constructions, overhead bridges, free and compulsory education, among others, and thanked the people of the state for supporting him throughout his administration.
Akpabio, who said people of the state are proud of the uncommon transformation of the state, described Mr. Udom Emmanuel as a gift to the state and as the next governor under the PDP umbrella.
He applauded Jonathan for performing excellently in the areas of education, power, among others and disclosed that the economy of the country has grown to be the biggest in Africa.
State PDP Chairman, Mr. Paul Ekpo, said there was no alternative to PDP.
He, thereafter, presented flags to PDP candidates of various constituencies, in the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and to the governorship candidate.
The PDP governorship candidate thanked all who came out en-mass to support him, pointing out that the rally was a symbol of unity, hope, a bridge to the next level and that favour would take over labour.
He pledged to focus on the various programmes: job creation, developing entrepreneurship, agricultural renovation, industrialization, aggressive poverty reduction and institute of sports, among others.
Mr. Moses Ekpo, deputy governorship candidate, said he was glad to work with Emmanuel as his deputy and called on the people of the state, especially those from his constituency, to support PDP.
Earlier, stakeholders of the party, in their goodwill messages, had pledged to support Jonathan and to deliver all PDP candidates in the general elections.
Those who spoke were Senator Stella Omu, Senator Effiong Bob, Senator Emmanuel Ibok-Essien, Senator Anietie Okon, Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi, Minister of Lands and Housing, among others.
