goodluck_jonathanPresident Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Tuesday night at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, splashed cash gifts on the Golden Eaglets team that won the silver medal at the recently concluded CAF U-17 Championship in Algeria.

The team, which by virtue of their performance at the competition also qualified for the 2013 U-17 World Cup Finals, to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates in September were honoured by the president for their feat as it was the case with the Paralympians and the Super Eagles in February after winning the Afcon in South Africa.

Each of the Eaglets players were given N500, 000 , the team’s chief coach Garba Manu was rewarded with N1 million and his assistants Nduka Ugbade and Emmanuel Amuneke and goalkeeper trainer, Emeka Amadi, got N750,000 each.

President Jonathan also honoured athletes that took part in the U-18 athletics championship. While gold medallists went home with N500,000, silver and bronze medallists got N400, 000 and N300, 000, respectively.

Their coaches went home with N500,000 each.
