adamu_mu'azuPresident Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Wednesday nominated former governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, as Chairman of the National Pension Commission.

He also sent in names of four other nominees as commissioners of the commission.

Jonathan, in a letter to the Senate President, David Mark, said the nomination followed the expiration of the tenure of the director-general and commissioners of the commission.

He also, in another letter read to the Senate, nominated, Mr Mfon Akpan, as Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)

The letter read by Mark, stated that the nomination was pursuant to the provisions of Section 11(a) of the Federal Inland Revenue Act 2007.

The name of Sen. Bassey Ewa-Henshaw, was also sent to the Senate for approval as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) along with 14 other names as representatives.

This information is contained in a separate letter to the Senate by Jonathan.

The letter read in part, “the Niger Delta Development Commission was established under the NDDC Act of 2000.

“By the provision of Section 2(1) of the Act, a governing board shall be established for the commission.

“This shall comprise a chairman, one person each from the Niger Delta member states, three persons to represent non-oil producing states, drawn from the remaining geo-political zones not represented in the commission.

“One representative of oil producing companies in the Niger-Delta nominated by the oil producing companies, one person each to represent the Federal Ministries of Finance, and Environment.

“The Managing Director of the commission and two executive directors are also included in the board.’’

The letter further said the new nomination followed the dissolution of the governing board of the commission on Sept. 13, 2011.

Similarly, former governor of Edo, Prof. Oserhiemen Osunbor, was also nominated by the president as Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission.

The president expressed the hope that the requests would receive the usual expeditious attention of the Senate.

All the nominations are, however, subject to the confirmation of the Senate.
