Jigawa Govt. approves N2b for construction, renovation of schools

sule_lamidoThe Jigawa Government has earmarked about N2 billion for the construction and renovation of schools in the state.

Alhaji Bala Ahmad, a permanent member of the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), made this known during the award of the contract on Thursday in Dutse.

Ahmad said that the projects would cover Early Child Care, Primary and Secondary Schools, and would be funded under the 2012/2013 Universal Basic Education Commission intervention fund.

He said the projects were meant to provide conducive environment for teaching and learning in the schools.

Ahmad said that the board followed due process and procedure in the award of the contracts, and urged the contractors to do a good job.

Also speaking at the occasion, the representative of state Due Process Office, Malam Usman Alto, described the process as “transparent and successful”, and urged the contractors to abide by the contractual agreements.

Alto said that the contractors had 12 weeks within which to complete the projects.

A total of 170 firms participated in the process.
