Iwobi: Welbeck gave me confidence in Arsenal

Alex Iwobi says fellow forward, Danny Welbeck, taking him under his wing has been key to his integration into the side, in comments to the club’s official website.
The young forward has broken into the first team setup at the Emirates this season, having impressed in the club’s youth ranks.
He has impressed in the first team as well, with a series of impressive performances keeping the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott out of the team.
Most surprising has been his quick transition to first team football, with the youngster having looked settled from the get go.

The player though, insists that is thanks to teammate Welbeck taking him under his wing and helping him feel comfortable among the Gunners’ stars.

“Danny Welbeck has taken me under his wing,” he said.

“He’s been helping me a lot because he is a young English player that came through at Manchester United, so he knows what it’s like.”

“He came through at a young age so he is always helping me or having banter with me and making me feel comfortable. I think it is key [to feel comfortable] and they have all welcomed me.”

Iwobi will now be hoping he can end the season with a flourish and cement his place in the first team set up in future.

At present it certainly seems as if Wenger is willing to give him his chance, having stuck by him for the last couple of months.

He will likely be most impressed by the budding relationships he is building with the likes of Welbeck, and will be keen to see that further developed in future.
