Italy records 111 fresh coronavirus deaths, 416 cases

Italy

The Guardia di Finanza Italian financial law enforcement, on Wednesday, announced that police arrested 36 suspects in a major operation targeting the Moccia Mafia clan in the vicinity of Naples.

According to a statement, special units of the Carabinieri military police also placed 16 people under house arrest and have stopped a further five from conducting business activities for the time being.

The police added that Guardia di Finanza also implemented a further two temporary business ban measures, saying investigators seized goods and company shares worth around €150 million in total.

The Italian judiciary accuses those involved of association with the Mafia, blackmail, money laundering, corruption and illegal arms possession, among other things.

The Moccia clan was believed to be part of the Camorra Mafia, from the Campania region of southern Italy, where Naples is located.
