Iron dealers, Nkwo Umunze markets qualify for Anambra traders’ football final

The Iron Dealers Market, Atani Road in Ogbaru Local Government Area has qualified for the final of the Anambra Traders Sports Competition.

Iron Dealers defeated their semi final opponents, New Motor Spare Parts, Nnewi by 2-1 in one of the deciders played at the Godwin Achebe Stadium, Fegge on Sunday.

In the second semi-final tie, Nkwo Umunze Market booked a spot at the final after defeating Ajasa Market, Onitsha 4-2 on penalties.

The match had ended at 2-2 at the regulation time of the encounter played at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha also on Sunday.

Nkwo Umunze had opened scoring in the 11th minute but determined Ajasa Market drew level before the break and went ahead in the second half.

Umunze struggled to equalize, which brought the game at 2-2 in the 84th minute.

The game went into penalties and ended 4-2 in favour of the Nkwo Umunze team.

Nkwo Umunze and Iron Dealers will now square up for the gold and silver medal places, while Ajasa Market Onitsha and New Motor Spare Parts, Nnewi would play for the third place.

Winners would get N3 million, N2 million and N1 million for first, second and third place finish, respectively.

The Anambra Traders Sports Competition started on October 18 with five events, including football, tennis, table tennis, draught and Ncho.
