Senior Pastor, Foursquare Gospel Church, Garki, Abuja, Rev. Godwin Ohien, has commended Nigerian women for their roles in sustaining the home and the society, saying it is worth appreciating.

Ohien, who is also the Garki District Overseer of the church, gave the commendation in an interview on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, women are so important in the family because of their unconditional love to their children.

The pastor noted that mother’s day was first celebrated by one Gervais as a way of to honoring her mother for all the sacrifice she had made for him.

“The history of mother’s day was conceived by Gervais as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers do for their children. They are so special; they are loving and caring.

“Gervias discovered this and said ‘what do I do to make this day a wonderful day’ and she dedicated that day, March 8, to the women which has now been accepted internationally.

“It is a day that makes people remember the important and significance of mothers in their lives, and is observed to give special emphasis to the motherly figure around the world.

“We in Foursquare Gospel Church celebrate the day every second Sunday of May and we termed it ‘Family Month’.

“We celebrate our women on this special day because they are very important; they give unconditional love to their children, which a lot of men cannot give,” he said.

Ohien also described mothers as teachers to their children, adding “with mothers, you will find the children growing up and getting stronger at home.”

He said that with regular celebration of mother’s day, it would help to impact some virtues on the upcoming generation of women.

Speaking on the same issue, President, Foursquare Women International (FWI), Dr Olubunmi Ugbomah, said that mother’s day was a day the women in the church celebrated their achievements and their role in building the family, the church and the nation.

According to her, any environment that does not have a mother is like a house without pillars.

“Imaging a house without a mother; imagine a nation without women; imagine a church without women; obviously, things will not go the right way.

“So the significance of mother’s day is to appraise and celebrate our mothers, rejoice with them and enlighten the upcoming ones on what it takes to be a mother.

Ugbomah said the day was also a period for mothers to do stock taking on how well they had been playing their role as mothers, especially in supporting their husbands and raising Godly children.
