The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday announced Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim Folorunso as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.
His running mate, according to a letter by the Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Augusta C. Ogakwu, is Alabi Ebenezer Omotayo.
The letter entitled: ‘Forwarding of Final List of Candidates For 2016 Ondo State Governorship Election’ was addressed to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Sunshine State.
The letter reads: “Please find forwarded the final list of candidates for the Ondo State gubernatorial election for publication in accordance with the provisions of Section 34 of the Electoral Act 2010, as Amended”
The list of parties’ candidates attached to the letter, however, said Ibrahim was recognised as the PDP candidate because of a court order.
The Commission had earlier recognised former Attorney-General of the state, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), as the candidate.
The recognition of Ibrahim has led to tension in the camp of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
A source said the Mimiko camp may approach the Appeal Court to upturn the INEC decision.
