The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it would end all transfer cases of voters in Kogi and Bayelsa states, ahead of governorship polls in both states on October 6 and October 20, respectively.
The commission stated this in its daily bulletin issued on Monday in Abuja and said that the deadline was necessary following its directive that all transfers of voters must be concluded 45 days to an election.
Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections have been scheduled to hold on November 21 and December 5, respectively.
The commission explained that the 45 days deadline was to enable it to effect the integration of the transferred names into the register of voters in each of the states.
According to it, the register of voters is to be certified and published not later than 30 days to an election.
“A person who has relocated to another place outside the (polling) unit in which he/she registered cannot vote in his/her new location unless he/she transfers his/her registration,” it said.
The commission therefore advised any voter who intends to transfer his/her registration to write an application to INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kogi or Bayelsa.
“The application should be written through the Electoral Officer of the local government area where he/she is currently residing.
“Such an application should contain the current address of the applicant. This will assist the commission in allocating the Polling Unit (PU) nearest to him/her,” it said.
It added that the applicant should attach a photocopy of his/her Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to the application.
