The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will make the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections available online following calls by stakeholders for wider access.
Mr Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Haruna said the decision was aimed at promoting transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process.
He recalled that the commission conducted a physical display of the preliminary register at registration areas nationwide from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.
According to him, the exercise enabled registered voters to inspect their details and submit claims and objections as prescribed by law.
“The commission has taken note of the concerns expressed by Nigerians and other stakeholders regarding the desirability of making the register accessible through its online platform.
“This is also in addition to the physical display already conducted,” he said.
Haruna said the same preliminary register earlier displayed at registration areas would be accessible through the commission’s online portal, https://display.inecnigeria.org.
He said the online publication would complement the physical exercise and enable more Nigerians to scrutinise the register.
The commissioner said INEC was processing claims and objections arising from the exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the final register of voters on December 15.
He thanked Nigerians and other stakeholders for their continued interest and engagement, reiterating the commission’s commitment to transparency, accountability and implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026.
