Ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, Independent Democrats (ID) has reaffirmed its unwavering determination to take over the state from the Governor Willie Obiano-led administration, adding that preparations are in top gear to ensure a rancour-free primary election.

The exercise, which is scheduled to hold on Thursday, August 31, at Independent Democrats Anambra State secretariat, Awka, will have in attendance party executives, contestants, party delegates, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media and civil societies.

According to the National Chairman of ID, Hon. Edozie Madu, the party is well known for its values and will not deviate from the ideals of democracy.

He stressed that the electoral processes of the primary will be transparent and credible and as such the contenders will approve the outcome of the election in good faith.

Speaking with journalists in Awka on Wednesday, Madu said, “the primary of our party, ID will be conducted without bias. The party will provide a level playing ground for all the contestants.

“We have held roundtable discussions with stakeholders including the INEC, security agencies and civil societies and I can assure you the primary will be peaceful and remarkable.

“The yet to be named flag bearer will uphold the party’s manifesto which is based on the needs assessment conducted across the twenty one LGAs of Anambra State.

“We believe in a bottom up approach to governance and as such our party’s philosophy is to passionately provide dividends of democracy to the masses”.

While dismissing rumours making the rounds that Chief Ifeanyi Uba, who is aggrieved over the PDP primary, has joined Independent Democrats (ID) in a bid to clinch the party’s ticket, Edozie pointed out that Chief Ifeanyi Ubah is a formidable politician and a key stakeholder in the State, adding that he is at liberty to join the party if he so decides and agrees to strictly adhere to the ideology of ID.

Corroborating the National Chairman, Hon. Ikechukwu Okafor, who is Anambra State ID Chairman, reiterated his party’s commitment to the welfare of the people especially the downtrodden, adding that the party will come out victorious at the forthcoming poll.

While calling on the electorate to vote for the party’s candidate in the November 18 Anambra governorship election, Okafor warned them to wary of desperate politicians who had looted the state’s resources in the past few years.

He also advised politicians to play the game by the rules for the sake of peace and harmony in the state.
