The Secretary-General, International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr Kitack Lim, on Tuesday, inaugurated the ultra-modern headquarters of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), located at Victoria Island, Lagos.

Speaking during the inauguration, Lim expressed confidence in the leadership of the transport sector of Nigeria.

He also extolled the dynamic role of the Minister of Transportation, Mr Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, and the heads of the various parastatals under the supervision of the transportation ministry.

While applauding the initiative of the modern edifice, he said that the ministry had exhibited good leadership with high human management competency and capability.

“An important element is human competency and capability with leadership being the most paramount to consider, which I have seen exhibited by the minister.

“I am very confident to look forward to more prosperous opportunities and development of maritime activities of Nigeria,” Lim said.

On his part, Sambo expressed gratitude to the IMO scribe for making out time to visit Nigeria and for having a first-hand opinion on the developmental strides in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

He stated that Nigeria would continue to strive to ensure maritime activities are in line with best practices, while embracing new technologies.

Also speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration, Ms Lynda Ikpeazu, commended the management of NIMASA led by Jamoh.

Ikpeazu said that NIMASA should aim higher as there was room for improvement.

“Your name will remain in gold as long as Nigeria’s maritime administration is concerned,” Jamoh said.

He noted that NIMASA had embarked on various projects and initiatives to attain a robust and conducive environment for the maritime.

“This has been made possible with the support of stakeholders across board,” he said.
