Ikpeazu: I’m in charge, urges Abians to remain law abiding

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has urged the people to remain calm, following INEC’s issuance of Certificate of Return to Mr Uche Ogah as governor.

Ikpeazu made the call in a statement he signed and made available to journalists in Umuahia on Thursday.

He said he received the report with concern because of INEC’s action in the face of the pendency of his notice of appeal and motion for stay of execution to Justice Okon Abang’s judgement.

“Our laws are clear on this matter. No one may be issued with a certificate of return let alone be sworn in as governor when there is a subsisting appeal and application for stay.

“I appeal to Abians to remain calm and law abiding in the face of this provocation.

“Unless and until the appellate courts have conclusively resolved the appeal, the status quo remains, I am still the governor of Abia state”, he said.

Residents of Aba remained calm and went about their businesses after news of the issuance of the certificate to Ogah spread across the state.
