Ikorodu Utd: No plan to sack Okpodu

The management of Ikorodu United has described as 100 per cent false report in some section of the media that the side is shopping for an unnamed Dutch tactician.
The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side in March appointed former Nigerian winger and Warri Wolves coach, Sam Okpodu, as its technical adviser for the ongoing top flight season.
An official of the newly promoted side, Babatunde Ayoola, said the report is mischievous as the Lagos outfit has 100 per cent confidence in Okpodu to steer the fortune of the side to safety in the league.

“There is no iota of truth in the report that the management of Ikorodu United is shopping for a Dutch coach to shore up the fortune of the side in the ongoing league season, there is nothing like that, there is no truth in the report, that report merely exists only in the imagination of the reporter.

“We are embarrassed and surprised at the report as the management is not looking for any new coach rather wants to support Okpodu to succeed in his assignment.

“The management believes that Okpodu is doing a good job at the moment and the team is gradually improving with each match.

“We have just lost two away matches, one home match to Rivers United and drew another one game against Sunshine Stars within the short reign of Okpodu, Okpodu is doing a wonderful job and we are 100% solidly behind him,” said Ayoola.

Ayoola said the invitation of one of their players, Kabiru Moshood to the Olympic team by head coach, Samson Siasia is a sign of confidence and healthiness of the team.

“The invitation of one of our players, Kabiru Moshood to the Olympic team despite the battle to stay alive means there is hope for the side and should be celebrated instead of dishing out outright falsehood about the club.

“We have just played 11 matches and coach Samson Siasia is already seeing a jewel in us to beef up his team to us that’s a vote of confidence,” said Ayoola.

Ikorodu United will be the guests of newcomers, Niger Tornadoes in the weekend NPFL matchday 12 clash at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.

The Lagos-based side is at the bottom of the 20-team top flight on six points from possible 33 in the 11-week old league.
