Iju/Itaogbolu violence: Fayose pacifies irate youths

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, on Thursday pacified angry youths who took to the streets of Iju/Itaogbolu in Ondo State in protest against the fatal shooting of one of them by a policeman in the town.
Fayose, who was coming from Akure Airport, met the irate youths who had blocked the Akure-Ikere Highway to protest the shooting of one of them.
The young man was shot in the leg and reports said the bone of the leg was badly shattered.
Addressing the angry youths, Fayose appealed to them to allow peace to reign.
“What is important here is that justice should be done. I will call the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State to liaise with his Ondo counterpart and ensure that the policeman who allegedly shot the young man is properly investigated.
“We need peace and we must allow it to reign in our communities. I appeal to you to clear all the burnt tyres and other things that you have blocked the road with,” the governor said.
Motorists who have been held for over two hours on the road, heaved a sigh of relief as they were allowed to pass.
It was gathered that trouble started early in the morning when a yet-to-be identified policeman shot a petrol hawker in the town.
Some eyewitnesses said it was over an argument on the price of a litre of petrol.
