Igwe succeeds Ozumba as UNN VC

Igwe

University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has a new Vice-Chancellor in the person of Professor Charles  Igwe  following the expiration of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof  Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba.
The appointment of Igwe  came after a final selection exercise conducted by the University’s Governing Council on Thursday.
Igwe scored 86.5 points, beating his closest rival, Prof James Ogbonna , Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics,  an indigene of Nsukka, who came second with 85.6 points, while former Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, an  indigene of Nsukka, Prof Cyprian Onyeji, came third.
The  new vice chancellor will assume duty on June 4, 2019.
Igwe is from Anambra State and he will be taking over from Ozumba who is also from Anambra State.
Meanwhile, in 2018 in a forum of Nsukka sons and daughters, they declared the  desire of  having one of their own made the Vice-Chancellor. The emergence of Igwe , therefore, may not go down well with some of them.
Professor Igwe, until his appointment was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
