The crisis between the Federal Government and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State deepened on Friday.
Shortly after the governor arrested some oil officials working for ExxonMobil, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu, ordered the immediate redeployment of the state Police Commissioner, Dandaura Mustapha.
The order was contained in a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba.
Before his removal, Mustapha had led a team of security operatives to intercept and detain the 22 oil workers in Port Harcourt on the allegation of breaching Rivers State law on COVID-19.
Joseph Gobum Mukan replaces Mustapha as the Police Commissioner.
According to the statement, Mustapha now occupies a new office as the Commissioner of Police, Provost, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Also, Musa Adze was posted as the Commissioner of Police, Anti-Fraud Unit, FHQ, Abuja.
The IGP charges the affected commissioners to diligently and professionally discharge their duties in their new areas of responsibilities while noting that their posting and redeployment was with immediate effect.
