The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kebbi State Council, says Gov. Nasir Idris has ordered the immediate refund of deductions made from teachers’ September salaries.

The NLC Chairman in the state, Malam Murtala Usman, disclosed this on Friday while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.

He said that the congress acted after receiving complaints from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) about unexplained deductions.

According to him, an inquiry confirmed that the deductions were made as professional registration fees for the Teachers Registration Council (TRC).

“The NLC delegation met with the Ministries of Education and Finance and later with Gov. Idris.

“It was revealed that the deduction was not approved by the governor, nor was he pre-informed before the action was taken.

“Consequently, the governor directed the immediate refund of the deductions to the affected teachers,” Usman said.

He added that the Governor warned the Ministry of Finance and other agencies against making any salary deductions without due approval.

The NLC chairman commended Idris for his quick intervention, saying that it helped avert possible industrial unrest in the state.

He also urged the workers to always channel their complaints through their unions for necessary action.
