Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has assured the people of Ekperi in Etsako Central Local Government Area that his administration would continue to ensure that there is peaceful coexistence among his party and other political parties in the state.

Obaseki gave the assurance on Monday when he visited the Egiegbai II of Ekperi Kingdom, Alhaji Deke Kanoba, to seek for his prayers and support ahead of the September 19 governorship election.

“I will continue to do everything within my power to ensure that our dear state is peaceful.

“No business can strive in a state where there is no peace. As a government, we are determined to explore every means to grow our economy.

“I understand that there is also no place or business that can boom without constant electricity.

“We need electricity to some of our products such as fishes which is a major means of the income of the people of Ekperi.

“It is our interest to construct roads and other infrastructural development for our people. We have had some challenges with management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

“But as a government, I want to assure you that we are very concerned about the constant electricity supply to our people,” he said.

The governor, however, said that all “our institutions must be isolated from politics”.

In his remarks, the Egiegbai II of Ekperi Kingdom, said that his palace would not play partisan politics, adding that his interests was in good governance.

He called for peaceful rallies among political parties to be well monitored by security agencies.

The traditional ruler, however, called on Obaseki to look into the activities of BEDC in his area and also asked for the construction of Ogbago and Osomhegbe communities road.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 4 Chairman, Mr Robert Itsisor on Monday in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of the state left the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the September 19 governorship election.

Robert was received by the chairman of Edo PDP Campaign Council, Mr Dan Orbir, at the Ogbona Ward 4 campaign ground.

He described Obaseki as a great man whose developmental strides were the major reasons why he left APC.

“The governor has done well in his first tenure in office and deserves a second term. Edo people are proud of him.

“I have decided to lead other members of my ward to join him in moving the state forward,” he said.

In his remarks, Obaseki commended the people of Ogbona for their massive turn out at the campaign ground.

“Your turn out in today’s rally is like a local government campaign. I am overwhelmed. This large turn out is commendable”, he said.

The governor further assured the people of Ogbona that the Ogbona Girls Secondary School would begin classes as soon as schools reopen.
