Robbery

When Sunday Ajewole opened a shop for his wife, she was so happy that she called her relatives to pray for him.
To her, Ajewole deserved prayers and praises for being a loving husband. Little did she know that the money for the shop was part of proceeds from robbery operation.
The 32-year-old Ajewole was a fuel supplier before he decided to call it quit and join a robbery gang. Members of the gang had successfully robbed many banks and offices of bureau de change.
He was number three in the hierarchy and kept his gun in an uncompleted building near his house in Ayobo area of Lagos State.
The wife wept uncontrollably when detectives from the Lagos State Police Command stormed the area and arrested him. It was then his ‘real business’ was revealed.
Ajewole, a father of three, said: “My wife doesn’t know I am a cultist and robber. I joined the gang about four years ago. I was introduced into the business by Tunde, my friend. The money I realised from our operations, I used it to open shop for my wife but she didn’t know”.
The Officer in Charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Abba Kyari, effected Olayeni’s arrest after an arrested robbery suspect fingered him as their armourer.
His colleagues were also arrested at a popular hotel in Egbeda, Lagos.
Three stolen vehicles, arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
