Former Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has told the Code of Conduct Tribunal that he regretted serving the country as a minister.
While testifying at the tribunal during his trial on Thursday, Orubebe said it was unfortunate that he served the country for over six years only to be put on trial for alleged non-declaration of asset.
He said: “I love this country and I served as a minister with all my heart and to the best of my ability. But I am pained that the same country is putting me through all the things I know nothing about. I slept in the creeks for two weeks trying to persuade the militants to drop their weapons. Finally, we succeeded and we got amnesty. But see what I am being subjected to today”.
