Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State says developing good governance at the local government level is key to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the state.
The governor made this known on Thursday in Osogbo while declaring open a workshop on “Preparation and Packaging of a Master Plan of Action for the 30 local government areas and Ife – East Area Office.’’
Aregbesola, who was represented by Mr Adekunle Ige, a former Special Adviser on Water Resources, Rural Development and Community Affairs, said that the state had developed its Master Plan of Action.
He said a focused administration must demonstrate concern for planning and good governance while facilitating the development of a master plan of action for rural communities.

The state’s master plan of action, he said, would contain profiles of the communities and the priority needs of each of the 30 local governments areas.

He said it would also include the use of techniques of the universally accepted Participatory Rural Appraisal and Community Plan of Action.

Aregbesola charged the participants to make use of the workshop to contribute their quota to the success of the MDGs.

Earlier in his address of welcome, Mr Adelere Oriolowo, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Rural Development and Community Affairs, commended the governor for approving the workshop.

Also speaking at the event, the Director, Community Department, Mrs Hannah Mosadomi, and the Programme Officer, Mr Bunmi Ibiloye, stated that the workshop was aimed at promoting sustainable development in communities.
