Suspected herdsmen, on Wednesday, attacked a Catholic priest and the Vicar of St Theresa’s Parish Agulu, Rev Fr Cornelius Okoye, along Ugwuoba/Amansea axis, Enugu- Onitsha Expressway, Enugu State.

The priest, who narrowly escaped death, recounted his ordeal.
He said he was coming back from a crusade when the herdsmen attacked him.

According to him, his attackers shot at his car severally. They attacked him with different weapons and took him to a thick forest, where they blindfolded him.
He added that they made attempts to open his heart with a dagger before lightning and thunder struck-off the dagger and they took to their heels.

“I thank God for delivering me from Fulani gunmen at Ugwuoba/Amansea axis of the Enugu -Onitsha Expressway.

“They shot sporadically at me. They used knife to cut my body and wanted to open my heart before lightning and thunder struck and they ran away.
“At that point, I had a voice said to me, get up and run. God gave me the energy to run. They ran after me, shot at me and the spark from their gunshot provided a little light for me to see and got to a place where I saw someone that helped me and took me to the hospital,” he said.
