The AIEN / DMU FOUNDATION has called for intensified priority on education to break the cycle of poverty.
According to it, education can open doors to the future, equip a child to support himself, reduce risks of exploitation, early marriage and involvement in social vices.
Dr Amanze Ikwu, one of the Founders of AI & EN Foundation, spoke in Lagos on Tuesday on the AI & EN Education Foundation / DMU scholarship award for 2022/2023 Academic Session.
He said that the date for the final exam for the scholarship had been scheduled for Dec. 3, 2022.
“Education is an essential part of life.
“ From understanding the basics of reading, writing, and numbers through to learning vital life skills, education happens every day of our lives.
“However, some of the most important lessons are learned at school – a supportive, encouraging environment where knowledge can be imparted to eager young minds.
“This is why our foundation is committed to championing education on a global basis, helping disadvantaged children attend school.’’
He explained that the examination for scholarship award would take place in Mbaise, Imo, on Dec. 3 and that 75 students out 108 students of Umunneato (Egberede, Eziala & Okwu) qualified for the final exams for Scholarship Awards.
He said that female applicants for final examination were 55 while there were 20 male applicants.
According to Ikwu, in our clime, many take education for granted, but thousands of children in rural areas in Nigeria will do anything to have the same level of access to education.
He said that due to the devastating effects of poverty, conflict, and natural disasters, there were countless young people in Nigeria who simply did not have the means to go to school and learn.
“The AIEN Foundation has picked a fight against poverty in rural communities.
“ From promoting quality free education for all by providing scholarships to gifted children from low-income and middle-class homes.
“Also providing infrastructure and furniture to schools, women and youths empowerment, promotion of quality and affordable health for all, clean water and sanitation, provision of basic infrastructure in rural disadvantaged communities and promotion of relief materials in time of emergency in Nigeria.’’
NAN reports that the AIEN FOUNDATION / DMU FOUNDATION was founded by Dr Amanze Ikwu and Ezenwa Nwawudu, an Engineer.
Ikwu is a trained Physician and the Director of Ama-Medicals, who works at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, United Kingdom.
Nwawudu is an IT expert and astute scholar. He is the Founder/President, Global Needs Institute, France and the Founder of Sixkon – A Smart technology/ Biometrics Technology Startup based in France, and the Director, Sixview Integrated Services Ltd / Sixview Commodities, Nigeria.
DMU Foundation is a community development charity organization founded by the Chairman of Dolek Nig. Ltd, Mr Dominic Urakpa.
The foundations improve education in the rural communities and support gifted children from low-income and middle-class homes in Nigeria in their academic pursuits.
Ikwu urged for collaboration and generous support to build equipped schools to enable children living in some of the most remote, isolated areas.
According to him, this will also go a long way in the attaining Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)1 whereby, according to UNESCO, “access to education contributes to poverty reduction because an educated population is able to take informed decisions contributing to equal rights, economic and natural resources and to granting basic services for all men and women.
“Including ownership and control over land and property, inheritance, appropriate new technologies and financial services.”
