Help! PDP has hired mercenaries to destabilise APC, cries Kwankwaso

Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State, on Sunday, raised the alarm that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hired mercenaries to hijack and destabilise the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso, a Senator-elect (Kano Central), also advised the APC national leadership to act fast by coming out with an acceptable zoning formula for the National Assembly leadership positions to avoid intra-party crisis.
The former Defence Minister, who said the first task of the mercenaries “is to infiltrate the APC with the sole aim of retaining National Assembly leadership positions for the PDP” warned that “if the PDP is allowed the lead the National Assembly from June, it is going to create a dangerous trend which can affect the polity”.
To him, the APC leadership must, immediately, inform its members and Nigerians where the Senate Presidency and Speakership of the House of Representatives have been zoned to.
“Something must be done fast to avert an impending leadership tussle within the APC over who becomes what at the Senate. Such a situation will give the PDP a leeway of using their experience in the game to muster support, even from the APC. Any delay will cause confusion and mess up the entire system.
“It has happened before. That is why we must be careful. Aminu Tambuwal was not the candidate of the PDP in 2011. Some of the lawmakers in the House of Representatives in the then PDP mobilised from opposition parties and Tambuwal became the speaker. Tambuwal ‘tambuwalised’ the House by romancing with the opposition to get the seat. PDP may want to adopt the same tactics to retain the leadership of the Senate. We must not allow this. PDP is a master of this game. If the zoning is delayed further, it might become a replay of what happened at the Lower Chamber in 2011.
“I am one of those experienced in this game. I was a Deputy Speaker in 1991. So, the issue of leadership is very important. The party should come out with guidelines so that confusion can be reduced to the barest minimum ‎.”
