*Appeals to residents of Lagos, Ogun to re-elect both governors

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ogun State and former House of Representatives Member, Hon. Kayode Oladele, has enjoined the electorates in Ogun and Lagos States to re-elect the incumbent governors Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu respectively in Saturday’s gubernatorial elections for continuity and rapid socio-economic development of the neighbouring states.

In a statement on Tuesday, Oladele reiterates the importance of re-electing the two Governors for another term of four years as a means of consolidating on the achievements recorded in their states in the last four years. Oladele in the statement stated that, “There is no doubting the fact that both Governors Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State have in their first term in office, delivered on their electoral promises and implemented APC manifestos to the expectations of the people in their respective states and therefore deserve to be given fresh mandate to continue in their developmental strides”.

The release further states that the two governors having been elected in 2019 under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC have not disappointed in their sterling performances in providing the dividends of democracy to the people.

“Their quest for a fresh mandate in next Saturday’s election and with the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President-Elect in the last Presidential election will be an added impetus for the governors’ policies and programmes that will promote rapid economic development of both contiguous states. The joint development commission established by the two governors will be further enhanced to deliver on the deliverables that will impact positively on both states”, he said.

Oladele also restates the successes recorded by the two governors in the areas of infrastructural development such as massive road constructions across the states, low cost housing schemes for low-income earners, improved educational infrastructure, rural development, youth and women empowerment programmes, micro-economic development, employment generation, huge investment in rail and water transportation and social transformation across the states should make the governors deserving of a fresh mandate.

According to Oladele, both governors have invested heavily in all these areas to impact positively on the lives and livelihood of the people and therefore should be given another opportunity to continue the good work.

In Ogun State, for example, Oladele stated that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s uncommon passion for educational development is underscored by improved infrastructure, increased access to quality and affordable education, rehabilitation of schools, provision of free textbooks, the implementation of e-learning tools and innovative policies that support teaching and learning.

These policies are contained in the Ogun State Education Revitalization Agenda (OGSERA) that repositions the state’s education sector as a model for other states in Nigeria. Prince Dapo Abiodun has laid a solid foundation for the economic development of the state by embarking on massive road rehabilitation and construction across the state. Many rural communities in the state have been opened up by road networks to improve mass transit of people and agricultural produce. Housing estates have been built across the senatorial districts to provide affordable housing for the low-income earners. State hospitals across the state have been rehabilitated and provided with qualified personnel for effective healthcare for the people.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, just recently commissioned the Ogun State Cargo Airport in Shagamu to aid transportation of goods and services in and out of the state.

Oladele also stated that Abiodun’s counterpart in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has equally continued to build on the legacies of the past APC governors in the state in the massive provision of basic infrastructure such as roads, improved healthcare services, school infrastructure to uplift the standard of education, huge investment in mass transportation services such as water and railways, security architecture, affordable housing scheme for low-income earners, agricultural revolution for mass food production, youth and economic empowerment programmes for job creation and other socio-economic policies and programmes that have improved the living standards of Lagosians.

The statement emphasises that the governors of Ogun and Lagos States have in the last four years in spite of the dwindling state resources occasioned by the COVID 19 pandemic and economic challenges succeeded in providing dividends of democracy to the people and thus raised the bar in progressive governance in Nigeria. “A renewed mandate of another four years for Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State is therefore, certainly a vote for prosperity and economic growth of the two neighboring states”, Oladele concluded.
