The crisis in the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over Wednesday’s adoption of the deputy governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, as the governorship candidate of the party for the 2018 election, has deepened.
On Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, resigned as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
A source told Freedom Online that Adeyeye resigned to avoid a situation in which the Visitor to the university, Governor Ayodele Fayose, would remove him.
The source said Fayose has not hidden his opposition to the governorship ambition of Adeyeye.
“He (Adeyeye) has resigned and has communicated same to the governor through the right channel. The two have since fallen apart. Prince Adeyeye has vowed to contest the election. How he will do it, we still don’t know in Ekiti but this crisis is already causing ripples in the party. Recall that Senator Abiodun Olujimi is also fighting the governor. Let’s see how it goes”, he said.
On Wednesday, Adeyeye, through a statement by his campaign organisation, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) had rejected the decision of some party members who were allegedly coerced by Fayose to endorse his deputy
at a hurriedly-organised stakeholders meeting, held at the Ekiti State Government House, Ado Ekiti.
