CP Abubakar Lawal-Daura, Commissioner of Police on election duty to Kebbi, on Thursday tasked security personnel on respect for fundamental human rights.
He gave the task while addressing a combined security personnel at the state police headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.
The combined security personnel included men from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, NCS, NIS and NDLEA.
Lawal-Daura said the task became imperative with a view to consolidating on the successes recorded during the previous presidential election and National Assembly elections.
“I felt it’s necessary the other sister agencies to feel my presence that there is a commissioner of police on election duty and to appreciate you all on what you did in recent elections and I expect you to do more.
“As we successfully conducted the Presidential and National Assembly elections, this time around the governorship and state assembly elections are more localised, we have to put in more efforts to see that we do the needful.
“The successes recorded would have been possible without collective efforts, I must confess that you have done a wonderful job in the last elections,” he said.
The CP stressed the need for presence of security agencies across the state in order to give the electorate confidence that the required security was available to guarantee their safety to come out and exercise their civic responsibility freely and peacefully.
He assured that the security agencies were fully ready to deal decisively with any unforeseen situation “but based on respect for fundamental human rights of citizens.
“This must always be respected as you carry out your constitutional responsibility”, Lawal-Daura charged.
