The Sokoto State Police Command on Monday confirmed the killing of a security guard at the personal residence of the House Leader of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Garba Bello, by suspected armed robbers.
Spokesman of the command, Mr El-Mustapha Sani, made the confirmation in Sokoto.
Sani said the deceased, Zubairu Bello, was shot by the hoodlums when they struck at the house located along Sama road, Sokoto, around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
The Police Spokesman also said that the suspected armed robbers had scuffles with the deceased before they shot him.
“The deceased told the invading hoodlums that his master was not in the house. They tried to gain entrance into the house through the roof but they could not do so. They later fled when some mobile policemen arrived the scene after the House Leader made a distress call.
“None of them could, however, be arrested as they fled immediately they heard the gunshots of the mobile policemen,” he said.
He said that the robbers could not, therefore, take any money or property from the house
Sani said the deceased was confirmed dead at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
He said the late Bello was buried on Sunday afternoon according to Islamic rites.
“The police command will sustain its search for the fleeing hoodlums to bring them to book,” he said.
