Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has instructed all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to step down from their positions.
The directive was announced in a statement issued in Lafia by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Labaran Magaji.
According to the statement, affected officials are required to submit their resignation letters on or before March 31, 2026, in line with electoral regulations.
Magaji explained that the decision is based on Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
The directive applies to a wide range of government officials, including commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants, special assistants, and personal assistants.
It also covers directors-general, chief executive officers, and heads of various government agencies, parastatals, commissions, and state-owned enterprises.
Additionally, civil servants and other employees within the Nasarawa State Government who intend to seek elective office are included in the directive.
The SSG stated that all resignation letters must be routed through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government before the deadline.
He emphasized the importance of strict compliance, warning that the directive is mandatory for all affected officials.
The move is part of preparations for the upcoming elections and is aimed at ensuring transparency and adherence to electoral laws governing public office holders.
