Gov. Aliyu lauds UNICEF interventions, pledges increased partnership

Gov. Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State  has commended the efforts of United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) in improving the wellbeing of citizens and pledged his administration’s partnership for the development of the state.
Aliyu made the commendation on Wednesday in Sokoto, when the UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Ms Cristian Munduate visited him on the sideline of her inspection tour of intervention projects in the state.
He acknowledged the numerous UNICEF interventions on healthcare, water supply and sanitation, nutrition, birth registration and other areas in the state, which he said had enhanced human lives in the state.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to partner all the donor agencies and organisations  to uplift   lives and infrastructure development across the state.
Earlier, Munduate said she was in Sokoto to monitor intervention projects and expressed satisfaction on what she saw on ground and commended Sokoto state’s commitment as well as assured increased working partnership.

She said Nigeria remained a driving force in African to change the continent for better future.

According to her, UNICEF had existing MoU with Sokoto on different aspect of immunization, nutrition, water and sanitation, birth registration focus 9n achieving that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets.
She said UNICEF would continue to offer technical supports to Sokoto state and  called for execution of more action plans.
” Our support is not about provision of funds alone but also technical support especially in the education sector.
” Education and health sectors are major agenda of your administration, and we are offering technical support through the signed MoU, ”  Munduate said.
The Country Representative inspected  the Gagi Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) and Nana Khadija Center, catering for victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV) domiciled at Sokoto Specialists Hospital.
During the visit, the District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi, expressed appreciation over UNICEF interventions which had been of immense benefit to the community.
Umar-Jabbi said the interventions had eased water supply challenges, increased patients access to hospital as well as other hospital friendly services.
